Medical students key to Pakistan’s future, says Governor Kundi
PESHAWAR, September 3, 2026:
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday said that investment in youth pursuing medical education was, in fact, an investment in the future and society, stressing the need to provide more scholarships and opportunities to talented students.
He was addressing a scholarship distribution ceremony as chief guest at North West School of Medicine Hayatabad here, where he distributed scholarships among 30 deserving students and congratulated them on their achievement.
The Governor appreciated the administration of North West School of Medicine for awarding scholarships to deserving students purely on merit, saying that securing scholarships reflected students’ hard work and capabilities.
He expressed hope that the scholarship recipients would perform their professional responsibilities with dedication in future and play an important role in serving the people.
Governor Kundi said medical students could serve their province and country in a better manner, adding that young healthcare professionals would have a vital role in the development and progress of the nation.
“The future of Pakistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is linked with the youth, and they need better opportunities today more than ever,” he added.
He said parents were making sacrifices according to their resources to provide quality education to their children, therefore educational institutions and society had a collective responsibility to encourage deserving and talented students.
Talking to media persons after the ceremony, Governor Kundi said the Sindh government had also welcomed Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi during his previous visit.
He said the KP Chief Minister should focus on major issues of the province, including terrorism, unemployment and law and order situation.
Regarding the strike of Levies and Khasadar personnel in merged tribal districts, the Governor suggested that the Chief Minister should send a delegation and meet the affected personnel to address their grievances.
Governor Kundi said that the parliament was the appropriate forum for discussion on the creation of new provinces and administrative units.
He criticized the provincial governments for delay in holding local government elections, saying that the PTI government had curtailed powers of local bodies after coming into power, while elected local representatives had repeatedly protested for funds and authority.
He emphasized that local governments in all four provinces should be empowered so that public issues could be resolved at the grassroots level.
Commenting on Jamaat-e-Islami’s sit-in, Governor Kundi said the protest was peaceful and he participated in it on the directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He welcomed the formation of a government committee for talks with Jamaat-e-Islami.
