Governor reviews KP security situation, calls for strengthening police, CTD capacity
PESHAWAR, Oct 6: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the overall security situation in the province and stressed the need to further strengthen the operational capacity of police, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and other law enforcement agencies.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah, Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, Additional Chief Secretary Home Ikramullah Khan, Additional IG Special Branch Muhammad Kashif Alam, Joint Director General Intelligence Bureau Arshad Ali Khan (NSC), Additional IG CTD, DIG Operations Shakir Hussain Dawar and other senior officials.
The participants briefed the Governor on the overall security situation, counter-terrorism measures, public order and the latest crime situation in the province.
The Governor was informed about the law and order situation, delays in the procurement of modern weapons, manpower-related challenges and progress on various policing projects. He was also briefed on protest activities and the planned long march in the province.
Officials of the CTD informed the meeting about measures being taken to prevent terrorism and highlighted issues related to procurement of modern weapons, manpower shortages and infrastructure.
The Additional Chief Secretary Home gave a detailed briefing on the repatriation of Afghan refugees, informing the meeting that 45 refugee camps had been closed across the province and at least 1.6 million Afghan refugees had returned to Afghanistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Kundi paid tribute to the sacrifices of police and security forces in maintaining peace and combating terrorism. He emphasized the need to address manpower, resource, procurement and infrastructure issues facing the police and CTD to further enhance their operational capabilities.
The Governor also called for stronger coordination among institutions to improve overall performance and ensure effective maintenance of peace and public order in the province.
